Clayton rectangular backup pads are the interface between the sander and the abrasive sheet, available in 3×4, 3×5, 3-2/3×7 and 2-3/4×8 inch sizes, plus a Corner version and Radius pads for sanding curves. They come in Hook, J-Hook and Vinyl attachment and Multi-Hole, Standard-Hole and No-Hole patterns.

They mount to the sander two ways: Screw-On with 4 screws, or Peel & Stick pressure-sensitive adhesive. Multi-hole J-Hook pads come standard on all Clayton sanders for better airflow; J-Hook creates a small channel between the abrasive and the foam pad and is preferred for screen abrasives.
Radius pads are made for contour work: Radius Short (672-401J-56R, radius 56R, ~3.5″ diameter curve) and Radius Long (‘Dot’, 672-401J-66R, radius 66R, ~4.125″ diameter curve).
