About Scintam Engineering

Scintam Engineering is a UK technology company focused on removing seized fasteners with controlled electrical discharge machining. The process uses electrical pulses and avoids direct mechanical extraction force; the manufacturer describes no chemical use and no heat affected zone in the component.

FastEDR is a portable tool for aerospace maintenance and complex systems, while ARTES is a large format, high throughput system for remanufacturing. Scintam describes benefits including shorter repair times, lower damage and more predictable scheduling across aerospace, machinery, industrial, energy, nuclear and rail applications.

From application requirements to the right solution

Scintam selection with Hadi Technologies

FastEDR or ARTES selection starts with fastener type, material, surrounding component, work environment and event volume. Separate a portable near-component need from repeated large-format processing.

Photos, drawings and maintenance data help consolidate technical questions for the manufacturer. Application fit, availability, training and service depend on the approved use and scope.

Questions to help you choose

What is the difference between FastEDR and ARTES?

FastEDR is a portable system with a power unit and tool head, suited to maintenance work beside the component. ARTES is a large enclosed EDM machine with CNC controlled servo axes for repeatable remanufacturing and higher throughput. The choice depends on part size, fastener volume and whether the work must be done in the field or in a dedicated cell.

How does EDM fastener removal differ from mechanical disassembly?

EDM uses electrical pulses and an electrode to remove metal in a defined area instead of applying high twisting or pulling forces to a seized fastener. Scintam systems use tool heads and fixtures tailored to the removal task. Material, access, fastener position and component preservation requirements determine suitability; each setup requires an application-specific assessment.

What information is needed to specify FastEDR?

Provide the fastener type, alloy, diameter, access depth and available clearance around the joint. These inputs influence the electrode and tool head, and sometimes the required fixture. For aircraft or high value assemblies, downtime limits and documentation needs should also be defined before selection.

When can ARTES fit an industrial remanufacturing process?

ARTES is suited to a repeated sequence in which seized fasteners must be removed from many similar parts. CNC motion, dedicated fixtures and multiple tools support automation and processing several parts per hour. It is not automatically a replacement for a general machining centre, so part envelope, volume and fixturing should be reviewed.
